YOUR PERSONAL STYLE. A FASHION BEEF.

Do Black and Brown go together?

Yes. I have an opinion.
And I also had an argument.

A question was asked:  Which shirt can I wear with this brown sweater?  The white shirt or the black shirt?

The question was asked to myself and another lady I happen to respect.

And while white is always an obvious option; obvious makes me not like it so much.
I suggested, the inquirer where the black shirt under the brown sweater.

Lady, I happen to respect says, "No. You can't wear black with brown."

Me: "Why not?"

Lady, I happen to respect: "They don't match."

Me: "Why not?"

Lady, I happen to respect: "They don't go together."

Me: "Why not?"

Lady, I happen to respect: "They just don't, as a rule."

Me: "Whose rule?"

Lady, I happen to respect, but am losing respect for:  "People."

Me: "I promise you can wear black and brown and no people will come after you for defying a rule."

I defended black and brown that day.  It is a modern look, the black creates depth, its sharp, classic, and more unexpected than the "I always wear white cause it goes with everything" shirt.

And I say; you do not have to wear black and brown together but do not deny another from the right to do so!   I looked down at my outfit on the day of this argument and yep, I was wearing black and brown and did not even realize it.  This concluded the argument but we walked away in disagreement.

Some of you are probably scratching your head.  You really had an argument about black and brown?

Color combinations.

The primary concern when getting dressed for the day is jeans or pants? Dress or skirt?
Heels or boots? Flats or sneakers?  What type of item do I want to wear?

While we obviously care about color; I don't believe it is the first or even second thought when reaching in our closets.  Thus, we forget how important color is.   And baby, it is.

And while today's outfit, is definitely not full of vibrant colors, it does combine two colors that I love to put together: black and brown.

What I like to do when combining colors so close in hue?
  1. Play with texture.
  2. Work with layers.
  3. Vary the hues.
The boots are the only lighter and warmer brown in my outfit.

I love hats. They make you look smart in an argument.

Can't wait for the next color combination conversation.
